One night, my team member and I went to a karaoke bar to speak God’s Word. The first woman we spoke to was interested in talking, but after a while, I could see that she did not have any hunger for the Word and was simply wanting to have a discussion from an intellectual point of view. The conversation became more of a mocking interrogation. She implied that we shouldn’t be doing what we were doing, and that no one would be receptive to us. I was discouraged and wanted to leave but decided to stay and find someone else to talk to.
My team member and I moved to the bar and sat next to a man who was sitting alone, and we ended up having a wonderful conversation with him. He opened up about the fears he felt while deployed overseas, so I shared with him about our ministry’s theme of Live Fearlessly! and Joshua 1:9. I pointed out that the context of the verse was that Joshua was going to go to battle. God was telling Joshua that he didn’t need to fear because God was there with him. I then encouraged him that wherever he is, God is there with him. He later shared that he had been looking for a church in the area, and he gladly accepted our invitation to fellowship. He came to fellowship two days later and got very blessed. And he took the Foundational Class!
This was a wonderful lesson in perseverance. When we speak the Word, people will respond in different ways. No matter how people respond, we can’t let it discourage us from continuing to speak the Word to others. After all, it is our right and responsibility to speak the truth in love!
