I Knew God Wanted Me to Be Successful
I was twenty years old and flunking out of college. My latest grades consisted of an F in EVERY class! I had very low self-esteem and lacked the energy of my conviction to see anything through. My life was going downhill fast.
During this time, I was introduced to a Way fellowship by a teacher at the college. I went to fellowship for the first time with my roommate and was thrilled to learn that I was more than a conqueror from Romans, chapter 8. The love of God shown by the people in the fellowship made me feel so welcome. I took the ministry’s Foundational Class when I returned home from college and became involved in the local fellowship.
Over the next several years I took the Intermediate and Advanced Classes and continued to grow in God’s Word. I now had purpose and direction for my life as well as the commitment to carry it through.
At the age of thirty, I decided to go back to school to earn my degree. I knew God wanted me to be successful, and I desired to turn this past failure around. Well, I EXCELLED in my studies! I earned a 4.0 GPA, made the dean’s list, and was a member of the National Honor Society for my major. College was challenging, as I worked a full-time job, but the principles from the Word of God I learned gave me the tools I needed to be more than a conqueror. I proudly graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication.
God’s Word taught in The Way Ministry fellowships and classes has enabled me to be successful in many areas of life. Going back to college and receiving my college degree is certainly one of the most memorable and rewarding examples.
God Is in the Business of Blessing His Kids
It was winter when I wanted to start my own landscaping business. Newly married, I picked a sunny day and went door-to-door in a subdivision right next to where we lived. Since God is in the business of blessing His kids, as I continued to knock on doors, something very cool was happening: a landscaper had discontinued his services in that neighborhood the previous fall. I ended up getting all his accounts. I started with twelve accounts that spring. By the end of the first season, I had twenty accounts. By the end of the second season, I had forty, then sixty, then eighty. God supplied my need abundantly.
In the late summer ten years later, my wife and I relocated, and by this time we had two young children to take care of. As with the previous time of starting a business, I picked certain neighborhoods in the area and started knocking on doors. I got one good result but needed more. While driving around, getting to know the area, I noticed a landscape nursery. I had the thought to turn in, so I did. I met the owner and told him I just moved to the area and was a Christian wanting to start a landscaping business. After two hours of a heartfelt conversation, he said that in the fall he was not going to continue any landscaping jobs. He said he would refer his clients to me if I would buy plants from his nursery. My need for more work was met Ephesians 3:20-style. Matthew 6:33 was living and real to me once again. By the way, the area we lived in was in a severe drought at that time, but God came through by supplying our need abundantly.
