The framework of the Ambassadors of the Way Outreach Program includes participating in the following each day: quality time in the Word, time in prayer, fellowship with like-minded believers, and reaching out to others in the local community.
Before I was a Way Ambassador, I thought I knew how to study the Word. I got in my self-prescribed ten to fifteen minutes a day reading the Epistles or a short article from our ministry’s website. I studied the Word first in my day because I knew life would be harder if I didn’t. I look back on it now, and I see that I really didn’t know how to equip myself spiritually; I only knew enough to keep myself from caving under life’s pressures. Now, I know how to prevail against them.
At the program’s outset, thirty minutes of time in the Word felt like a lot to fill. It doesn’t feel that way anymore. My once “morning obligation” turned into the thing I seek out in the quiet moments between outreach and work, work and sleep, sleep and outreach. It’s like getting a pep talk from God. It’s more relaxing than sleep, more energizing than coffee, and more comforting than a pile of warm laundry. It is the refuge from the storms of life.
God made it clearer to me than ever that the depths of our hearts are no secret to Him. He showed me answers, both to questions I knew I had, and questions I didn’t even know to ask. I started formulating deeper questions as my study time and life experiences revealed gaps in my understanding and kept track of them in a journal. As my questions piled high, God worked in fellowship meetings, class sessions, my peers, my leadership, and my personal study time for the answers to be revealed at lightning speed. All I was seeking would’ve taken years to achieve without God multiplying my efforts. Instead, it took weeks or even days for some answers.
