Way Ambassadors Mend Hearts

As a Way Ambassador, I learned that my life has great purpose. I saw that it is God’s heart for me to know Him personally, and that together, we can show others His heart for them as well. One way I saw this is when God worked in my teammates and me to go to a certain store one evening. While we looked for people to speak the Word to, one lady caught my eye. She wore a hoodie that had one big word on it: Pray. I walked up to her and told her how much I appreciated her hoodie, because it was a great reminder to go to God with the things on my heart. I asked if we could pray for her, and she said yes. She was going through a difficult family situation and felt very alone. We prayed for her, and we thanked God for how He is always there for her and He would never leave nor forsake her. She was comforted by this, she thanked us, and we went our separate ways.

Later, at the same store, we again ran into this woman! She stopped to talk with us more and said that she always loves when God sends reminders, big or small, her way to reassure her that He is there, He loves her, and He will always take care of her. She was truly grateful and felt great assurance that God would continue to be the One to always meet her needs, even in her current situation. I was thankful to be at the right place at the right time with my teammate and with God. God gives us the opportunity to be heart menders with Him as we believe to love those He brings us to every day.

Way Ambassadors Have God as Their Partner

During my tenure as a Way Ambassador, I developed my ability to trust in God. I’ll admit, I’m analytical and a classic overthinker. When making decisions, I like to think through all the options thoroughly and try to optimize to find the best solution. Thinking things through is good to a degree, but too much analysis can sometimes get in the way. At the end of the day, no amount of thinking on my end can beat God’s solution to a situation.

One area in which I learned to trust God more was follow-up and undershepherding. During my tenure, I acquired many contacts, and there was simply not time to reach out to all of them on a consistent basis during this fast-paced program. Most of the contacts tended to fizzle out, and sometimes it was hard to tell if people were hungry for the Word. But God always knows who’s hungry! I had to learn not to stress about inviting every person to every event or trying to send the perfect text. I can plant and I can water, but ultimately, it’s God Who gives the increase (I Corinthians 3:6).

Near the beginning of the tenure, I made friends with a coworker who expressed a desire to come to our fellowship to learn more about the Bible. She visited our fellowship a couple of times and seemed to enjoy them. However, she stopped coming to fellowship after the first couple of visits. Since she switched jobs, I didn’t see her at work anymore, but I continued to reach out. After many weeks of inviting her to various fellowships and events and visiting her a couple times at her home, I eventually made the choice to focus less time on texting her to make more time for the people who did show spiritual hunger.

One day, I had the thought to reach out to her to ask if we could get together. We made plans for her and her husband to come over the following Sunday after their church. That Sunday morning, she texted me asking if she and her husband could come to fellowship. That weekend happened to be when another team member’s family was visiting, including their four young children. It was also the time that she and her husband broke the news to us that they were having a baby!

The timing of everything could not have been more perfect. My friend and her husband instantly bonded with the visiting family and got to talk about becoming parents and how sweet parenting can be when you have God and the household. It was such a sweet time together! Only God could have made that connection.

Meanwhile, another woman our team witnessed to was unresponsive for the first month. One day, God worked in me to reach out to her to ask how she was doing. She responded that she was going through a lot. The very next day, one of our teammates ran into her at the park, and he urged her to go to fellowship. We invited her to a café Bible study, which she thoroughly enjoyed, then she came to her first fellowship the very next day and loved it! After just a couple of weeks, she was sitting in her first Foundational Class. She shared that she had been searching for years for someone to teach her how to understand the Bible, and finally she was being taught. It’s so cool how God worked in the situation to make sure this spiritually hungry woman could get the Word.

I feel so free now knowing that I don’t have to twist myself into knots to bring people the Word. God wants people to be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of the truth (I Timothy 2:4). So, I don’t have to figure this out on my own; I have God as my partner. If someone is hungry for the Word, God can work in me, the person, and/or the situation to make sure that person gets what they need. I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to grow in my partnership with God during the program. I can accomplish so much more for God when I trust Him and let Him do the heavy lifting!

God Exceeds Way Ambassador’s Expectations

For Way Ambassador, I took a job at a popular restaurant as a server. When I got the job, I wrote down twelve goals I wanted to see God help me accomplish at work over the course of the program. One of those goals was for Him to exceed my expectations. This one, along with the rest of the twelve, got checked off! I especially saw this exceeding of expectations with a particular goal: to pray with at least seven of the tables I served. As I worked “heartily, as to the Lord” and sought after accomplishing this goal, God provided the open doors, and I prayed with more than twelve tables (not including prayers with coworkers)!

There is one prayer that stands out to me. There was a couple that sat at one of my tables that was very rude, complaining from the minute they walked in the restaurant. When I came to introduce myself, they complained to me about a number of things before I could even ask what they would like to drink! They did apologize later and briefly mentioned that it had been a difficult day. I kept note of this and realized that there was something deeper than just what I saw on the surface—it was spiritual, and I made up my mind that at the end of their meal, I would pray for them. If I had been focused on the five senses, I would have gotten very upset and bothered throughout their stay, but seeing the situation spiritually helped me stay loving, long-suffering, and kind.

When dropping off their check, I asked for their names and offered to pray. They grudgingly answered and accepted the offer. Once I started praying, the lady started crying and told me all that was going on after I was done. She had health issues, was having trouble walking, her friend was battling cancer, and much more. The adversary, the Devil, was stealing, killing, and destroying in their life. He wanted them trapped in the five senses and blinded to the spiritually abundant life God has made available. But God worked in me to give them the opportunity to trust in Him and live a more than abundant life.

I may never see them again, but only God knows the impact my decision to pray with them had on their lives. It was also a witness to the people at the table right next to them that I was serving! They asked about the situation, and it opened the door for me to talk about our ministry and the Way Ambassador program!

Way Ambassadors Build Confidence to Reach Out

The framework of the Ambassadors of the Way Outreach Program includes reaching out to others in the community. Enjoy these outreach sharings from recent Way Ambassadors.

Witnessing Is So Much Fun

I have really grown to enjoy witnessing. I have seen God work in me, as I was in the right place at the right time, from running into a smoking building, to catching a man before he fell down an escalator. To me, witnessing is the epitome of walking by the spirit, and it is so much fun. I find being in the area, peacefully speaking in tongues, and being on the lookout for needs opens the doors wide open for God to direct me. I stay in contact with God, and He directs me to who I need to talk to. This is much improved from the old me who would find himself actively making excuses as to why he couldn’t go out and talk to people.

We Were in the Right Place at the Right Time

During my Way Ambassador tenure, I think some of my most memorable outreach times were when I was feeling discouraged or extra tired, when I thought something like, Is this what we need to be doing right now? or even, Some extra downtime sounds pretty nice. But, God called us to be faithful, and faithful I was going to be!

The first time I had a moment like this was at the very beginning of our tenure. One of my teammates and I had decided to visit the local gyms to check out the environment and pricing at each of them, believing to share the Word with people along the way. After the first one, however, I was wondering if it was truly the best use of our outreach time. My teammate encouraged me, we prayed together for God to show us what we needed to do, and we both decided to continue. I looked on my phone for another gym and found one that looked like it had a Bible-based poster in one of the photos! We quickly agreed to go there next, and got a tour from a super sweet girl who worked there. In that time, we were able to explain how we had just moved there for a Christian outreach program, and she got SO excited! She told us that she had very recently prayed about more direction in her life and had been discouraged herself. We were able to inspire and encourage her more in her own walk with God. We were in the right place at the right time, and we were able to get encouraged by that and this young woman as well!

I Saw an Open Door

While at work one day with a manager I had been sharing the Word with since I arrived in our city, he mentioned he was free after work. He had been asking a lot about speaking in tongues, and I saw this as an open door. I asked if he wanted to meet after work so we could lead him into speaking in tongues. He eagerly agreed. An hour and a half later, we were in the public library leading him into manifesting power from on high. HE SPOKE IN TONGUES! The longing in his heart was fulfilled, and his joy was palpable.

Being able to grow in my knowledge of God’s Word, trust in Him, and have meekness to follow instructions have opened great doors of blessings throughout the program.

Getting a Pep Talk from God as a Way Ambassador

The framework of the Ambassadors of the Way Outreach Program includes participating in the following each day: quality time in the Word, time in prayer, fellowship with like-minded believers, and reaching out to others in the local community.

Before I was a Way Ambassador, I thought I knew how to study the Word. I got in my self-prescribed ten to fifteen minutes a day reading the Epistles or a short article from our ministry’s website. I studied the Word first in my day because I knew life would be harder if I didn’t. I look back on it now, and I see that I really didn’t know how to equip myself spiritually; I only knew enough to keep myself from caving under life’s pressures. Now, I know how to prevail against them.

At the program’s outset, thirty minutes of time in the Word felt like a lot to fill. It doesn’t feel that way anymore. My once “morning obligation” turned into the thing I seek out in the quiet moments between outreach and work, work and sleep, sleep and outreach. It’s like getting a pep talk from God. It’s more relaxing than sleep, more energizing than coffee, and more comforting than a pile of warm laundry. It is the refuge from the storms of life.

God made it clearer to me than ever that the depths of our hearts are no secret to Him. He showed me answers, both to questions I knew I had, and questions I didn’t even know to ask. I started formulating deeper questions as my study time and life experiences revealed gaps in my understanding and kept track of them in a journal. As my questions piled high, God worked in fellowship meetings, class sessions, my peers, my leadership, and my personal study time for the answers to be revealed at lightning speed. All I was seeking would’ve taken years to achieve without God multiplying my efforts. Instead, it took weeks or even days for some answers.

Way Ambassadors Shine as Lights

I Didn’t Hesitate to Come to Fellowship

Our Way Ambassador team witnessed to a man who immediately began faithfully attending home fellowship along with his wife and daughter. He received the Word with meekness and began to make decisions according to the Word in his marriage, in the upbringing of his daughter, and in his business. He also witnessed to two friends who began attending home fellowship. One of these friends commented, “My friend was a person full of fear, shy, and of few words. Now I see a change in him; I see him happy and speaking confidently. I want to walk like him. That’s why I didn’t hesitate to come to fellowship when he invited me.” This couple along with their two friends were in our Foundational Class.

Every Day There Is Light

A new person in our Way Ambassador fellowship shared this: “I have never heard of this church, I only know that today I received the Word of salvation, and every day there is light that shines in my spiritual eyes. I say that I am very grateful to God, to this church of The Way that through the Ambassadors of the Way, I received the Word. It was hard for me to read the Bible. Today I don’t go to bed without reading the Bible. I’m very grateful.”

A Way Ambassador Sent to Speak the Word

I had been dealing with a three-week-long headache (I have since been healed—thank God). Nevertheless, sometimes the pain prevented me from going out witnessing. I was taking medicine to try and get rid of the pain, staying hydrated, everything, but the headache persisted. On this particular day, I still had the throbbing pain, but I did not want to stay in bed or rest, I wanted to do what I had been sent here to do—speak the Word. So, pushing through the pain, I read the Word, prayed, got dressed, and started the day.

My Way Ambassador teammate and I needed to run some errands before connecting with some other team members to do some outreach. We went across town to drop off some items for a neighbor, came back to the other side of town, got gas for my car, then went to a coffee shop to work on a few things. We finally finished our errands and now, at almost noon, we were finally ready to do outreach.

We ventured to the shopping center across the street and prayed in the car for open doors to speak the Word. Three large stores were in front of us, and we agreed to start in the first large department store. Walking toward that store, we thought about starting at the store next door instead. We stood for a minute between the two stores and decided to stick to our original plan and go into the first store.

We did a slow lap through the store and found lots of items, but not a lot of people. We said hello to a few people during our lap through the store, but no open doors to really speak the Word. We started heading toward the exit to go to the second store, when I had the thought to look at one last area we had not been to. We walked over to that section, and around the corner was a young lady with various pink-colored items in her shopping cart. I immediately commented on her pink items, stating it was my favorite color as well! Her eyes lit up, and a forty-minute conversation began! We connected on many topics, from favorite colors, to college stories, books, TV shows and movies, what we were doing in the area, and shared about the Word.

She stated that her sister was meeting her at the store, and to our surprise when her sister arrived, we found out they were twins! Unfortunately, my teammate and I had to leave, but we exchanged numbers with both ladies and invited them to join our team to see a movie that Sunday. They happily said yes to our invitation. Right before we left, the one sister I started the conversation with, looked at her twin and said, “Look, Sis, friends! Just like we prayed for!” My teammate and I exchanged an excited look and we exclaimed that we, too, had been praying for friends. We said goodbye and were walking to the car when I said to my teammate, “Look at that, two for the price of one!” We laughed and were so blessed with how the day went. We both marveled how if one thing had gone differently that day, we wouldn’t have run into those two wonderful ladies.

Way Ambassadors See God’s Hand in Their Lives

The Way Ambassador program brought a wonderful transformation to my personal life. First, it made me grow and reach a high level of spiritual maturity. I developed the habit of praying constantly and loving and helping people. Secondly, because of the good health that God has given me, I was able to finish the service without being in the hospital or experiencing a serious illness.

I saw God’s hand in my life in the total healing of my sister, who was in a serious health situation that almost disrupted my participation in the program. I had the unconditional support of my fellow ambassadors.

I became personally involved in my sister’s recovery. I read accounts of healing in the Word, and prayed like never before, both with my understanding and speaking in tongues, until I saw God’s hand of deliverance, my sister’s total healing.

I experienced the joy of speaking the Word of God and seeing people who did not have a knowledge of the Word able to believe it and get born again and speak in tongues. These are events that made me very happy and thrilled my soul.

God supplied all my needs. I am grateful for my service as a Way Ambassador and for the blessings that I will have in the future as a result.

How great is our God!

Junior Way Ambassadors Know Prayer Works

One day while we Way Ambassadors were witnessing in another city, the sky began to darken and drizzle, we all ran for cover under a roof, and it began to rain very hard.

We decided that the weather wasn’t going to take away our joy, and started singing several hymns from the songbook while we waited under the roof. During that time a lady who was with her daughters in the same place, also waiting for the rain to stop, asked us who we were. We shared with her who we were and what we were doing.

As we chatted with her, my seven-year-old son said, “Why don’t we pray? Prayer has power!” Right there we all held hands and prayed in the name of Jesus Christ that the rain would stop, and at the end of the prayer, it literally stopped raining. The Junior Way Ambassador shouted, “Prayer works!” This incident had an impact on everyone, especially on the lady and her daughters. And it strengthened in our hearts what we are as ambassadors and how God manifests Himself so powerfully in our lives.

Way Ambassadors Put God First—He Provides Their Need

As Ambassadors of the Way in our country, we saw God working mightily so that things would work for our good, as Romans 8:28 says.

It was a normal day, and we were going out to teach the Word. I remember that on that day we walked a lot. It was the beginning of the Way Ambassador program and we were looking for new people who were thirsty and hungry for the Word. We walked down several streets of our neighborhood with the intention of proclaiming God’s Word and introducing ourselves. But when we crossed one street to get to the next one, we passed by a market stall, or stand, where they sold clothes. There was a young man who called out to us saying, “I want you to teach me the Word.” Wow! My witnessing partner and I were amazed and perplexed. We wondered how the young man knew we were teaching God’s Word. We didn’t have anything written on our foreheads to show that we were teaching the Word, we were dressed normally, we didn’t have Bibles in our hands, but we realized that something had happened at that moment, which to the physical eye was difficult to explain. Then he invited us to come closer, gave us seats, and even offered us something to eat. With this we realized that it was God providing for our need, because we really needed to rest, and it was opportune for us to take advantage of the time and talk about the Word with him. It was too good!

A similar situation happened with a young woman that we were following up with. In the second contact we had with her, she prepared something for us to eat, and it was just on a day when we left the house without eating anything, but God once again showed us that when we put Him and His Word first, the rest of the things are added to us (Matthew 6:33). The example we have is of the apostles who, when they went to preach the Word, were instructed by Jesus not to take extra things, only the essentials, because everything they needed they found wherever they went to preach the Word (Mark 6:8 and Luke 10:1-8).
